In October, the Social Development Commission and Marquette University will combine their expertise, resources and reach to host the 2019 Summit on Poverty and SWIM Conference. The event will merge Marquette’s Scaling Wellness in Milwaukee (SWIM) conference with SDC’s Summit on Poverty conference. Until now, the organizations held the events separately.
The Summit on Poverty and SWIM conference is a catalyst for change as it creates a safe space for well-informed, honest discussion. The conference theme is Self-Reflection, Hope and Collective Impact. This year will be different as we hold up a mirror and look at ourselves individually. Participants will be encouraged to evaluate their own beliefs and even biases. Together, we’ll look at how this impacts our work and the community. The conference also examines local, state and national policies that impact poverty and trauma.
The 2019 Summit and SWIM Conference targets community leaders, human service professionals, educators, advocates, board members and people experiencing poverty in Wisconsin.
